Congratulations, Alex Perez!
On a bright, beautiful day in September, members of the Randy E Roybal Foundation Board of Directors gathered to celebrate our inaugural scholarship winner (2018), Alex Perez.
Alex received the very first Randy E Roybal Foundation Positive Citizenship Award in 2018 as an 8th grader at Scott Carpenter Middle School. This past spring, he graduated from Westminster High School with a 4.0 GPA, and has now joined the student body at Colorado School of Mines where he will study computer engineering. As a first generation high school graduate and college attendee, Alex is proud to have been accepted at CU Denver, CU Boulder, Regis University, University of Northern Colorado, Fort Lewis College, University of Wisconsin, and Oregon Tech among others. He recently wrote a letter to the foundation in which he commented,
“I know that I was just an 8th grader who didn’t know what was going to happen next entering high school or what college was all about but one things for sure, when I got the news about the scholarship it was the best moment of my life, in the years that followed I always looked back at the believe that the foundation had for me and that inspiration helped me move forward and be able to have the opportunity to go to college. I want to thank you to everyone as they were the ones that helped remind me that there are people hoping I succeed.”
We are proud of Alex’s many accomplishments throughout high school and beyond, and we cannot wait to see all that he will achieve as he moves forward in his educational journey!
